MCMC urges immediate IOS update over critical Apple security flaws
Flaws include an exploit chain known as “DarkSword” which could be used in combination to compromise devices, particularly iPhones - March 19, 2026

THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has issued an urgent advisory calling on users of Apple devices to update their software immediately following the discovery of serious security vulnerabilities affecting iOS systems.

The commission said the latest update released by Apple addresses multiple flaws, including an exploit chain known as “DarkSword”, which could be used in combination to compromise devices, particularly iPhones.

According to the regulator, unpatched devices may be exposed to a range of risks, including unauthorised access to personal data, installation of spyware, theft of sensitive information such as messages and files, and potential surveillance without the user’s knowledge.

In light of these threats, MCMC is urging users to take prompt action by installing the latest iOS version to safeguard their devices.

The commission also advised users to enable automatic updates to ensure continued protection against future vulnerabilities, avoid accessing suspicious or unfamiliar websites, and only download applications from the official Apple App Store.

Users are further encouraged to restart their devices after updating and to remain vigilant for any unusual behaviour that could indicate a security breach.

MCMC stressed the importance of maintaining good digital hygiene and relying on official sources for cybersecurity information as part of broader efforts to enhance public awareness and resilience against evolving online threats. - March 19, 2026
