THE Government has unveiled the MCMC NEXUS application, a major initiative aimed at empowering citizens and the communications industry while driving the nation’s digital transformation.
Deputy Minister of Communications, Teo Nie Ching, officiated the launch, emphasising the app’s role in enabling the public to participate actively in improving national network quality.
MCMC NEXUS allows users to download the app, measure internet speeds, and submit real-time network performance data from their locations.
Crucially, the platform does not collect personal information, ensuring all contributions remain anonymous.
The initiative complies fully with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 and supports targeted network enhancements without compromising user privacy.
The application has undergone rigorous testing at an independent, ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory, with formal certification expected shortly.
Data gathered via MCMC NEXUS will assist the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in analysing network performance, pinpointing congestion and weak coverage areas, and facilitating improvements that are both precise and impactful.
“This approach supports the development of more efficient communications infrastructure, enhances internet quality—including in rural regions—and helps bridge the digital divide, in line with Malaysia’s vision for an inclusive, resilient, and sustainable digital economy,” the Commission said in a statement today.
MCMC has also forged strategic partnerships with a wide range of industry and government stakeholders, including Radio Televisyen Malaysia, the Department of Information, the Department of Orang Asli Development, FELDA’s FGV Prodata Systems, SPX Express, PRIDE, Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation, ZUS Coffee, the Selangor State Government (MBI), the Fintech Association of Malaysia, Favoriot, Ninja Van, the Communications and Multimedia Consumers Forum, Malaysian Technical Standards Forum, and all service providers.
These collaborations aim to promote app adoption, expand user reach, and generate comprehensive data reflecting real-world network performance across the country.
Members of the public are encouraged to download MCMC NEXUS free of charge from Google Play Store, Apple App Store, and Huawei AppGallery.
The launch ceremony was also attended by the Ministry’s Secretary-General, Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah, and MCMC Chairman, Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din.
By engaging citizens directly in monitoring network quality, MCMC NEXUS represents a landmark step in Malaysia’s digital journey, combining transparency, privacy, and public participation to strengthen the nation’s technological infrastructure. - March 31, 2026
