BEVERAGE chain MIXUE has pledged RM100,000 towards the construction of the Nanyang Overseas Chinese Mechanics Monument in Kuching, in a move aimed at preserving Sarawak’s historical legacy and honouring the contributions of early Chinese pioneers.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held recently in the state capital, was attended by Chinese Consul General Xing Weiping, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, and Kuching South City Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, alongside representatives from the local Chinese community.
In his remarks, Xing said the Nanyang mechanics played a pivotal role during wartime, forging enduring ties between China and Malaysia through sacrifice and resilience.
“Preserving and passing down this shared history is a responsibility we all share,” he said.
Uggah described the mechanics’ selflessness as an invaluable part of Sarawak’s cultural heritage, expressing hope that the monument will serve as a lasting reminder for younger generations.
“Their spirit of sacrifice and dedication is an important legacy for Sarawak, and it is vital that future generations continue to remember it,” he said.
Wee, meanwhile, called for continued efforts to uphold the spirit of unity and mutual support embedded in the community’s history.
“I hope all sectors of society will continue to carry forward the spirit of friendship and mutual assistance, and preserve Sarawak’s rich cultural traditions,” Wee said.
As a key donor, MIXUE representatives also took part in the foundation-laying ceremony, underscoring the company’s growing involvement in cultural and community initiatives in Sarawak.
The brand, which has established a strong presence across Malaysia, said the story of the Nanyang mechanics represents not only a defining chapter of Sarawak’s past but also a symbol of grassroots ties between China and Malaysia.
Through such initiatives, MIXUE aims to introduce this legacy to younger audiences while strengthening cultural appreciation.
Sarawak remains a core market for the company, which has positioned itself as a community-focused enterprise by participating in local cultural programmes and social initiatives.
To date, MIXUE has collaborated with between 300 and 400 local entrepreneurs nationwide, generating nearly 4,000 jobs and serving more than 200,000 customers daily.
Beyond its commercial footprint, the company has also undertaken community support efforts, including flood relief operations in Perlis and Perak, where it distributed more than 4,000 drinks to affected residents.
More than 100 MIXUE outlets in Malaysia have obtained halal certification from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), reflecting its compliance with local standards and sensitivity to religious practices.
The monument sponsorship marks the company’s latest effort to support Sarawak’s cultural development while strengthening people-to-people ties between Malaysia and China.
MIXUE said it will continue expanding its presence in Malaysia through community engagement, youth development initiatives, and cross-cultural programmes, alongside its focus on affordable products and localised opera. – June 9, 2026
