THE actions by a group of lift users who allegedly did not give priority to a man in a wheelchair have sparked anger among social media users.
Through a Threads user, @Ari.yeo8, a picture shows a man in a wheelchair waiting in front of a lift filled with people.
It is understood that the incident occurred at a train station as people were leaving for work yesterday morning.
The post claimed that the man arrived early, but other passengers who arrived later suddenly filled the lift simultaneously, causing the disabled person (OKU) to wait.
In a follow-up post, the owner of the post also reminded the public to give priority to wheelchair users because they may have no other option to move between floors.
“Please, a little public awareness. If you see wheelchair users waiting for the lift, maybe you can let them in first.
“For most of us, using the stairs, escalators or waiting for the next lift is still an option. But for them, maybe not,” the post said.
Netizens said the matter is not about special treatment but rather about accessibility, consideration and giving priority to individuals who really need it.
They also called for pregnant women, the disabled and the elderly to be given priority when using public facilities such as lifts.
A user described the act of not giving way as selfish and lacking empathy for the disabled.
Meanwhile, another user hoped that Malaysians could change their thinking and be more considerate when in public places. – August 21, 2026
