THE premium hatchback segment in Malaysia right now has the Mercedes-Benz A-Class in the top position and coming in at second place is the Volkswagen Golf (we are still waiting for the arrival of the Mk8) and in third position is the recently launched BMW 1 Series

Then there is the Renault Megane in fourth place, but its sales numbers are very small. So, for a new ‘player’ to come and challenge the A-Class, they will need some heavy branding and strong dealer network, which is why the Megane does not sell as well as it should.

This is why this all new DS 4 might not make a huge impression in sales numbers despite having a lot of readers admiring its gorgeous looks, on the inside and outside.

DS Automobiles, the premium brand from Citroen is accelerating its development with the 2021 model DS 4 with electrification.

This DS 4 has remarkable proportions from its intimidating nose to its sensuous rear. It measures 4.40 meters long, 1.83 meters wide and 1.47 meters high and offers the segment its largest wheel size, which can be up to 20 inches, with a faired design that gives it an even more athletic image. This makes the DS 4 larger and wider than its immediate rivals.

This DS 4 design is very striking with its door handles integrated into the bodywork, sharp angular lines and bold use of geometric shapes.

Purity nterior

This DS 4 has a digital interior, seamless and ergonomic with each part integrated intuitively as much for function as it is for form. This fluidity is driven by innovations that aim to create complete calm within DS 4.

With different types of leather, Alcantara leather, forged carbon, wood and new upholstery techniques, the interior of the DS 4 blends refinement with technology.

Digital cabin

This is where this DS 4 stands out against its rivals. This French car cabin is equipped with a very minimalist interior, almost like a pure electric vehicle.

You get two digital screens. There is a 5-inch touch screen in the center console (in-front of the gearshift) which allows the driver to give instructions via gestures or hand writing and even voice recognition, which its German rivals already have in their cabins right now.

Then there is also a large 10-inch touch screen above the 5-inch screen for all the vital information and functions that allows the driver to use climate control and the audio system.

The driver has a heads-up display that provides driving speed, navigation, warning messages, the song you are listening to and any incoming calls. The driver gets this 21-inch wide view with depth perception as it displays some four meters ahead of him/her on the road using an optical illusion.

It is hard to imagine and we will have to wait for a detailed personal encounter.
