AN online digital cartoon that showcases political cartoons from Asean countries entitled 'Human Rights in Asean: The Cartoonists Perspective' will be taking place from tomorrow until July 31. It is organised by Malaysian political cartoonist Zunar and NGO Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF).
Themed ‘Human Rights in Asean’, it exhibits 81 unsparing cartoons by 38 cartoonists from the region. There are 13 from Malaysia (including Zunar), 13 from Indonesia, four from Thailand, six from the Philippines and two cartoonists representing Myanmar.
Among the issues highlighted in the main gallery are the state of emergency in Malaysia; the royal defamation law in Thailand; the murderous war on drugs in the Philippines; the coup in Myanmar and religious extremism in Indonesia.

Dr Maszlee Abdul Malik, former education minister of Malaysia is scheduled to launch the event online on July 3 at 2pm.
Other honorary speakers are Pusaka founder-director and The Vibes' executive editor, Culture, News Features, Southeast Asia Desks Eddin Khoo, Friedrich Naumann for Foundation Freedom Southeast & East Asia regional head Moritz Kleine-Brockhoff and Zunar.
