MALAYSIAN food has come out tops, again.
For the New Year, Masterchef UK held a Champion of the Champions episode and recalled previous winners for another bout, reported World of Buzz.
Among the participants are former champions Tim Anderson, Saliha Mahmood Ahmed, Kenny Tutt, Irini Tzortzoglou and Ping Coombes.
Malaysian-born Coombes won the Masterchef UK in 2014 – her winning dishes being nasi lemak and wonton soup.
For the recent episode, Coombes took home the Champion of Champions title. She impressed the judges with a fancy variation of the claypot chicken rice and ais kacang.
According to a judge: “That is a beautiful, beautiful dish in every single way.”
It was a guinea fowl stuffed with rice with a side of crispy rice, lime ginger and chili gel and guinea fowl sauce.
It perfectly complemented the ais kacang made up of coconut ice, peanut powder, sweet corn mousse and rose flavoured meringue shards.
One of the judges almost finished the whole dish upon trying.
"I can't really believe it all... it's like a dream. I'm really, really happy," said Coombes, who was born in Ipoh and lives in Bath, UK. Her restaurant there is called Ping's Makan Club. Coombes also teaches cooking and has a cookbook called Malaysia. – The Vibes, January 4, 2022
