IN case you have not been reading automotive news websites recently, we are here to let you know that there is a brand new Nissan Almera in Nissan showrooms nationwide right now. This Almera arrives after the first generation Almera had 8 years of showroom duty and was starting to look really tired and uninteresting.

Launched one month ago in three variants and priced from RM79,906 to RM91,310 this second generation model is a little late in its arrival and has a number of rather tough rivals to compete with starting with the all new Honda City that is priced from RM76,800 to RM89,900 and the just launched Proton X50 Crossover which is priced from RM79,200 to RM103,300.

To make it easy for you to better understand this all new Nissan Almera, we offer 8 reasons why you should take it for a test drive this weekend.

1.         Nissan has given this Almera a brand new design yet it has the same spacious cabin and also good luggage room in the rear. The new design looks like the Almera has been to the gym and has come out leaner with some muscles.

2.         There is a new multi-infotainment system with 8-inch touchscreen Color Display Audio (AIVI) for drivers to be happy by bringing infotainment, navigation, safety, security and more under a single platform, with seamless connection via the driver’s smartphone.

3.         Safety features are better now with the top model Almera VLT getting 6 SRS airbags and added safety features like the Intelligent Moving Object Detection (IMOD), Blind Spot Warning (BSW) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA). The base Almera VL variant however only gets only 2 front SRS airbags and the Almera VLP gets 4 SRS airbags.

4.         There is an all new engine under the hood. This Almera is powered by a brand new Nissan 1.0-Litre Turbocharged engine matted to a CVT (auto transmission) capable of 100 PS and 152 Nm of torque. This engine is for saving fuel and not for quick spirited driving. City commuting will be great and highway speeds up to 110km/h is easily achieved.

5.         The new Almera comes with a 5-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty with free 5 times alternating maintenance service (parts and labour included) within 5 years. Worry free ownership.

6.         The Almera VLT comes with a comfortable ‘gravity free’ driver seat with a rear view camera display, USB access and push start ignition.

7.         Because it is using a 3-cylinder 999cc engine, the yearly road tax is just RM20.00 which is almost the same as superbike road tax.

8.         Edaran Tan Chong Motor is offering a special hire purchase Flexi Financing Promotion for a 90% 9-year loan with monthly payments as follows:

·             VL variant:             RM688.00 monthly

·             VLP variant:          RM738.00 monthly

·             VLT variant:          RM788.00 monthly
