FIVE of the leading stand-up comedians in Malaysia will be returning to the stage for a two-night show on the 4th and 5th of November. Andrew Netto, Kavin Jay, Kuah Jenhan, Phoon Chin Ho and Rizal van Geyzel, who have become mainstays in the local comedy circuit, will be performing in ‘Still Up, Still Coming’ at PJPAC, 1 Utama, Kuala Lumpur.

Individually they have made their names by performing for the past 16 years. This ragtag force of funnymen have accumulated multiple credits sold-out shows, TV shows, commercials, as well as one Netflix special, between them, while inspiring a new wave of stand-up comedians and open mic-ers that are currently taking over every show on the KL comedy roster.

Still Up, Still Coming promises a weekend of unadulterated comedy, performed by the people who are still at the top of their game.

They won’t all share be on the same stage, however. On November 4, Andrew Netto, Kavin Jay, Kuah Jenhan and Phoon Chi Ho will take the stage, while on November 5, Rizal van Geyzel will take over from Kavin, with the other performers coming for a second night.

Andrew Netto is a household name in the Malaysian comedy circuit, having considerable success in the local and international comedy scene. Taken under the wing of his mentor Harith Iskander in 2009, he has grown leaps and bounds since his beginnings as a 19-year-old college student. His highlights are performances with comedian Ahmed Ahmed and Maz Jobrani in 2011, and mega comedian Russell Peters in 2012 in front of an audience of 8,000.

Kavin Jay is one of Southeast Asia's most sought-after comedians. An integral part of the comedy revolution in Malaysia, he's a rapid-fire, grumpy, joke-telling machine. His intense sense of humor has tickled ribs and charmed audiences around the world following the release of his critically acclaimed Netflix special, Everybody Calm Down! in 2018.

Kuah Jenhan has been nominated for numerous awards including Best Comedy Show at the Perth Fringe World 2016 and has sold out shows in Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, and Hong Kong. Now, he has sold himself out as a Creative Content Director at The Chariot Agency, where in just one year of working, has won numerous awards (for advertising, still none for comedy). He still doesn't know what he's doing.

Phoon Chi Ho is an actor, a screenwriter, a show producer with his company Laugh Labs Entertainment Sdn Bhd, but he is most recognised as one the region’s top stand-up comedians. In 2021, not only did he bag the 1st Runner-Up prize for Astro’s Gelak Gempak, but he was also the only contestant with a perfect score. In the same year, he co-wrote three TV series – Astro’s Take Ctrl, WeTV’s My Ofis, and TV Sarawak’s Belon Angkasa – and one short biodata about himself.

Rizal van Geyzel is known for his comedic presence that lands somewhere between the profound and the absurd, as he injects an honest form of humor into building the grassroots of stand-up comedy in Malaysia. He is also a common name among international show bookers having appeared on Comedy Central’s Stand up, Asia! Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2017 and more recently, The Kings and Queens of Comedy Asia 2022 in Singapore. – The Vibes, October 21, 2022
