MALAYSIAN comedian Ronny Chieng recently announced that The Daily Show had won an award at the 2024 Emmy Awards on January 15.
Chieng, from Johor, is an actor and TV host based in the United States and has been part of The Daily Show since 2015.
Taking to Instagram today, the 38-year-old said he was elated to be part of the team at The Daily Show, which won Outstanding Talk Series at the 2024 Emmy Awards.
“We won an Emmy! Thank you @trevornoah for hiring me on @thedailyshow in 2015 and changing my life. The best job with the best people in comedy,” he wrote.
Chieng has been a correspondent for The Daily Show for the past nine years and, on November 21 last year, he appeared as the show’s guest host for the first time.
“What a dream to host @thedailyshow! Thank you for believing in me,” Chieng said in his post.
“Everything good that has happened to me in America is because of this show. And thanks to John Oliver for all the advice over the years and for being the best guest interview I could ask for,” he wrote back in November.
Chieng, whose full name is Ronny Chieng Xin Yi, grew up in Johor Baru and attended school in Singapore before continuing his studies in Australia.
The law graduate from the University of Melbourne started his career as a comedian while in Australia.
