JUST in time for Poland’s National Independence Day today, the first containers of Polish apples have arrived from this year’s harvest, directly to the sampling plates of members of the media and key opinion leaders (KOLs) who were invited to sample some five varieties of apples from over 200 varieties grown and produced in Poland.

Plucked just 5 days ago from orchards near Grojec, where the largest apple plantations in Poland are located, the freshness of these apples cannot be denied.

Some of the apples we sampled were the sweet and crisp Najdared, the balanced sweet and sour Gala – which not only had a crunchy bite to it but was juicy as well. The Golden Delicious was more sour than sweet, and perfect for apple pies, we were told. The Red Janaprince has a mild, sweet and floral taste and a textured bite, and the Idared, one of the most common orchard fruits from Poland, is sour and crisp – providing a fresh mouth feel for those preferring something less sweet.

'Fresh from the Orchards of Poland. Apples from the heart of Europe' has been a successful promotion of European products in Asia, co-financed by the European Union as an ongoing effort to expand the market for produce from Poland into Asia.

“This year’s apple harvest in Poland has been one of the best in Europe. According to fruit growers associated with the Association of Polish Fruit and Vegetable Distributors Union, the demand for Polish apples is high,” said Arkadiusz Gaik, President of the Fruit Union Association.

Poland is the largest producer of apples in the European Union and the second largest exporter after Italy.

An apple tasting promotional activity will be held in Taman Tugu Park in Kuala Lumpur, tomorrow morning. Visitors will be able to taste Polish apples and learn more about Polish produce.

Foodies can also look forward to the Polish Food Festival, scheduled to take place from November 17-19 at Shook! at The Starhill Kuala Lumpur. The Embassy of the Republic of Poland has brought in celebrity chef Marcin Budynek for this event, where he will incorporate Polish apples into the wonderful cuisine of Poland for discerning diners. – The Vibes, November 11, 2022
