IRENE Cara, who won the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1984, for the hit song ‘What A Feeling’, which was the theme song of 80s classic ‘Flashdance’, has died. She was 63.

Her publicist confirmed her death on social media, saying she died at her home in Florida. The cause of death is still unknown.

Cara co-wrote ‘What A Feeling’ with Giorgio Moroder and Keith Forsey for ‘Flashdance’, which starred Jennifer Beals as a welder by day and a burlesque dancer by night. The dance numbers would be accompanied by songs of the era.

Cara also won a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 1984 for ‘What a Feeling’.

She also sang the theme song for another popular 1980s film, Fame, which she also starred in.

Cara’s work for that movie earned her Grammy award nominations for best new artist and best female pop artist.

She started training as a child in music, dance and singing, and appeared on stage and on television, including on ‘The Tonight Show’ with Johnny Carson, which at the time was a sought after achievement, especially for someone so young. – The Vibes, November 27, 2022
