WE are often familiar with the notion that detox is the elimination of toxins accumulated in the body.
But, it's important for us to detox mentally as well, especially with the proliferation of technology in our lives in such disruptive times. If we do not control our use of technology, not only will it make addicts out of us – our lives will be run by what's invented to help us live more efficiently. We will be so reliant on technology that we won't know what to do without it. And we won't want to get there.
What is a digital detox?
Digital detox refers to a period of time when a person refrains from using tech devices such as smartphones, televisions, computers, tablets, and social media sites. “Detoxing” from digital devices is often seen as a way to focus on real-life social interactions without distractions.
Jojo's tips for a digital detox:
- Avoid checking your phone the moment you wake up
- Go without your telephone for little periods during the day
- Choose the content you consume wisely (remember – whatever you focus on, grows)
- Track how much time you are spending on social media daily
- Let's start consuming and using our technologies more consciously. – The Vibes, December 12, 2020
