KUALA LUMPUR – Refusing to drop the Ira Kazar family suit and asking for a child support discount are among the reasons why Puteri Sarah Liyana Megat Kamaruddin, 38, and Mohd Syamsul Mohd Yusof, 38, did not go ahead with finalising their divorce today.
Both of them failed to reach an agreement during the sulh process that took place this morning.
According to Puteri Sarah, they had reached an agreement at first, but Syamsul suddenly asked to withdraw the suit against Ira Kazar's family.
“I will not pull a case. What am I fighting for all this time? Why do I want to drop the case? My case is with Syamsul, and with other people. Don’t mix it up.
“Secondly, he asked for a discount for child support claims. I don't want to tell the actual amount but I am sure he (Syamsul) is able to pay.
“He is the one who offers that value. But he also asked for a discount. Children are not to be discounted,” she said when met by the media outside the court.
Puteri Sarah added that she had never claimed marital property before, and that everything she demanded was for the children.
However, after what happened today, she will file a claim for marital property.
When asked if she was tired with the case dragging on, Puteri Sarah said she will continue to fight for the sake of the children.
“I believe there is justice. I believe I am on the right side. I fight for myself and the children. And I believe the whole of Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Brunei are praying for me and the children,” she added
Meanwhile, lawyer Mohd Azmi Rais representing Syamsul said Puteri Sarah had amended several terms in the divorce draft agreement.
“When the draft agreement was submitted, we found that there were changes, among which that the plaintiff (Puteri Sarah) still wanted to proceed with the suit against Ira Kazar and his family.
“Sarah also asked for a high amount of mutaah which the defendant (Syamsul) could not agree to,” he said.
Previously, the court had set today for Syamsul to finalise his divorce against Puteri Sarah in accordance with Section 47 of the Islamic Family Law Act (Territory - Federal Territories) 1984.
The court had set the divorce proceedings to be held today after the lawyers representing both parties informed them of new developments and solutions in the case.
However, the terms of the settlement announced today will be recorded.
Following no pronouncement of divorce from Syamsul, the proceedings are expected to continue with the report of the Conciliation Committee.
The court then fixed May 25 for the mention of the case, in addition to the committee report which has been completed by both sides. – The Vibes, April 18, 2023
