FORMER Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today said all “Tuns” should be investigated and if they cannot explain where or how they got the money, their property should be seized.
Commenting with sarcasm, he said it was not necessary to obtain documentary evidence of their misdeeds and that suspicions alone should be enough.
“Tuns should not only be investigated. They should also be remanded until they reveal the source of their money. If they don’t, it must be because they are hiding,” he said in a post on X.
His remarks come after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) seizure of the 60-storey Menara Ilham owned by the family of former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin.
Following that, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim called on all parties to understand and give space to the investigative body to carry out its duties, even if the case may involve any influential, high-ranking or powerfully placed individual.
Anwar said that the justice and enforcement systems must set an example and dare to act against big corrupt people as it is a matter of integrity.
Dr Mahathir said, “Corruption must be eradicated at all costs.
“If the attorney-general thinks that the accusations are due to politics, it is the right of the AG not to continue prosecution.
“Passports should be returned. This is the right of the AG, and the courts must not question the decision of the AG,” added Dr Mahathir.
The former Pejuang chairman said Malaysia truly follows the rule of law and even a first offender must accept the full force of the rule of law.
“If whipping is mandatory, then the offender must be whipped. In Malaysia, the law is supreme and we must all abide by it,” added Dr Mahathir. – The Vibes, December 27, 2023
