THERE is no reason for Sarawak to back anyone plotting to overthrow the federal government.
“The federal government has been fair to us, especially in trying to return all the state’s rights under the 1963 Malaysia Agreement (MA63),” said Sarawak Pakatan Harapan information chief Senator Abun Sui Anyit.
He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had shown sincerity in wanting to give back the rights of Sarawak as was originally agreed upon under MA63.
"One of the first things that Anwar did after becoming prime minister was to appoint Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof to oversee the restoration of rights for Sarawak and Sabah under the MA63.
"As of now, Putrajaya had even agreed to give Sarawak full control on numerous fronts, such as education and health.
"Given all these developments, there is no reason for us to back any move by certain quarters who may be out to take over the federal government through the back door," he told reporters in Miri.
Sui, who is Sarawak PKR deputy chairman, said parties in the state must help PH in Putrajaya to steer the country forward in the socio-economic arena.
"The most important agenda for this new year is to restore our economic and social sectors.
"We cannot get involved in any more political moves that can destabilise the country again," he said.
Sarawak GPS chairman Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg, who is premier, had earlier also denied being involved in any plot to try to overthrow the unity government.
Numerous GPS members of parliament had also denied being involved in any such plot.
The plot allegedly dubbed the Dubai Move had also reportedly claimed that the position of prime minister would be offered to Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), the backbone party of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS). - The Vibes, January 3, 2024
