PENANG Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has urged residents in Balik Pulau to brace for unscheduled water cuts following the fifth incident involving the Sungai Perai riverbed pipeline here.
This may lead to possible water disruptions in the district again - the fifth in less than a month.
The Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) said through a Facebook posting that it is trying to pump treated water through the pipeline at a minimal flow’ due to the ruptured pipeline.
However, it may lead to 200,000 water consumers in the state facing disruption.
Chow said that tankers and personnel including divers have been mobilised to address the issue.
Last month, 200,000 consumers were also affected following an unscheduled water supply disruption due to a mishap at Sungai Prai.
The incident was caused by a burst 1,350mm-long pipeline lying on the riverbed of Sungai Prai.- The Vibes January 23, 2024.
