THE 14-year-old daughter of the Lahad Datu district police chief died after she accidentally shot herself with her father’s pistol at their home in Taman Tabanak, Lahad Datu, yesterday.
The victim was found in a bloodied condition in a room inside their house at 12:42pm.
It is understood that at the time of the incident, the Lahad Datu district police chief, Dzulbaharin Ismail, was at his office at the district police headquarters.
His pistol is believed to have been left at home, and his daughter was said to have found the firearm and was holding it before accidentally shooting herself.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, when contacted, confirmed the incident and said further investigations were still ongoing.
“The public is advised not to draw any speculations,” he said.
