MUDA and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) will not be contesting in the May 11 Kuala Kubu Baharu state seat by-election, they announced today.

In a joint statement, the parties said their absence will allow Kuala Kubu Baharu’s voters to decide between the unity government and the main opposition parties.

Nomination day for the by-election is tomorrow and so far, both Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Pakatan Nasional (PN) have named their respective candidates.

Barisan Nasional will be sitting out as well after offering support for PH.

“Muda and PSM are determined to be a voice for Malaysians. Our decision to not contest will not stand in the way of Malaysian voices being our sole focus,” the parties said today.

They also said that they will be speaking out about public issues such as disproportionate costs of living and housing pressures faced by B40 citizens during the campaigning period.

“Muda and PSM will continue to be committed in addressing the grievances of Kuala Kubu Baharu voters.

“We will invite the public to exercise their democratic right to vote, judge, and send a clear message to representatives and political parties to prioritise their duty and responsibility to the country.”

PN will field Bersatu’s Hulu Selangor acting chief Khairul Azhari Saut while DAP’s Pang Sock Tao will contest the seat for PH.

The KKB seat has been in DAP’s hand since 2013. – The Vibes, April 26, 2024.
