CARETAKER Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi cast his vote at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Simpang Renggam this morning at 8.06 am, shortly after voting commenced.

Clad in a white baju Melayu, Onn Hafiz took time to greet other voters at the polling centre.

Onn Hafiz is defending the Machap state seat under the BN banner as the coalition seeks to retain control of the Johor government.

Among other leaders to cast their votes early was Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

The Kota Tinggi member of parliament, who is also the defence minister, arrived at the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Taman Rinting 1 polling centre at 8.02 am to cast his ballot.

He expressed hope that the voting process would run smoothly and lead to the formation of a stable government.

Muda president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz cast her vote at Dewan Kampung Melayu in Kampung Majidee, one of the voting centres for the Larkin seat, at 8 am.

The former Puteri Wangsa assemblywoman said she decided to vote early so she could go down to the ground and support the Muda candidates.

The Larkin state seat is a three-cornered fight between incumbent Mohd Hairi Mad Shah of Barisan Nasional, Pakatan Harapan's Suhaizan Kaiat, and Norsinah Abu from Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama).

Voter turnout in the Johor state election stood at 7.97% as of 9 am, according to the Election Commission.

All polling centres across the 56 state constituencies will close by 6 pm.

The EC yesterday projected turnout for the Johor election at about 70%, citing strong public interest during the campaign period, which reflected enthusiasm to cast ballots. – July 11, 2026
