PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) has no right to prevent Barisan Nasional (BN) from holding discussions with any other party to face the 16th Melaka State Election (PRN).
PAS Deputy President, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, said that PN's willingness to continue working with BN to face the Melaka PRN had previously received very good feedback.
"PN has expressed its willingness to continue cooperation with BN in the Melaka PRN and the response was very good.
"However, PN has no right to prevent any party from holding discussions. It is up to BN,” he told Utusan Malaysia.
On August 8, BN Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reportedly said that BN was still open to negotiations regarding the distribution, even the exchange of seats, to face the Melaka state election if it was done honestly and sincerely and did not affect the number of seats each party has.
Tuan Ibrahim said that so far PAS had not been informed about any developments to face the Melaka state election and that the matter was expected to be decided in the near future.
“For now, the party is focusing on preparations for the muktamar to be held in early September in Kota Bharu,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tuan Ibrahim said that the date for the PN Supreme Council (MT) meeting has not yet been decided.
On the Political Funding Bill (RUU), Tuan Ibrahim said that all political parties and even the people need to understand what the bill is all about.
He said that PAS and PN, in principle, support the bill but are waiting for the tabling of the bill later so that it can be scrutinised first. – August 21, 2026
