BLOGGER Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, better known as Papagomo, has been remanded for two days until tomorrow as part of an investigation into the allegation that he insulted the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
His lawyer Rafique Rashid said that the investigation officer had applied to remand him (Wan Azri) for four days to complete the investigation, while the prosecution objected to a remand reduction.
“After listening to their arguments, the learned magistrate gave a remand of two days until May 2 tomorrow,” Rafique said in a brief statement today.
He said that Wan Azri was brought before the Dang Wangi police district remand court at around 9.30am.
Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the blogger was arrested by Bukit Aman CID’s Special Investigation Unit.
The offending statement was allegedly contained in a two minute and 46 second video clip where Wan Azri allegedly questioned the king’s decision to grant an audience to the founder of KK Mart over the issue of socks which had the word “Allah” printed on them.
In the same video, he also allegedly claimed that the king had ordered Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard, to be charged in court under the Sedition Act.
The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
“He was detained after a report was lodged by a 41-year-old trader who saw the video while going through social media at his home yesterday,” said Razarudin. – May 1, 2024.
