THE High Court has upheld the conviction and prison sentence of Rumah Bonda founder Siti Bainun Ahd Razali, who was found guilty of neglecting and abusing a teenage girl with Down syndrome.

Judge Noorin Badaruddin dismissed Siti Bainun's appeal to set aside the conviction and 12-year jail sentence imposed by the Sessions Court in 2023.

"The court finds no reason to tamper with the findings of the Sessions Court judge. Therefore, the appellant's conviction and sentence are safe and upheld. The appellant's appeal is dismissed," said the judge.

Siti Bainun will remain in the Kajang women’s prison.

In addition to the jail sentence, she was also ordered to perform 200 hours of community service.

The 31-year-old was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the first charge of neglecting the teenager, and 12 years for the second charge of abusing the girl known as Bella.

The sentences run concurrently.

The crimes against the 13-year-old girl were committed in a condominium unit in Wangsa Maju between February and June 2021. – May 2, 2024.
