A LIGHT aircraft with two people on board crashed this morning in Besout 2 Tambahan in Sungkai, Perak.

The Slim River Fire and Rescue Department said the woman and a male pilot have been taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.

"The incident occurred at around 9.45am, when a light aircraft Cesna 172 crashed near the Ladang Maip Sungkai,” it said in a statement.

Operation commander Isma Mohamad Ubaidillah Ahmad Rani told the Vibes the aircraft belonged to the Layang Layang Flying academy.

Layang Layang Flying Academy manager Shahdon Poong confirmed the victims have been safely extracted.

The aircraft made an crash landing in the Slim Valley area.

"I am relieved to report that both (on board) are safe and have been extracted. We are coordinating with local authorities to provide necessary assistance," said Poong.

This was the fourth crash reported in 14 months.

On April 23, Royal Malaysian Navy helicopters – an AgustaWestland AW139 and a Eurocopter Fennec – collided during a  parade rehearsal for the navy's 90th anniversary, in Lumut, Perak. Ten people – seven on the AW139 and three on the Fennec – were killed.

On August 17, 2023, A Beechcraft 390 Premier I business jet crashed onto an expressway interchange near Elmina in Sungai Buloh, Selangor. Ten people were killed. Among the passengers was Pelangai asemblyman Johari Harun. The aircraft was flying from Langkawi International Airport to Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport when the plane crashed minutes before it was about to land.

On February 13, 2023, A light aircraft crashed in Kapar, Klang, killing the pilot and another person on board. The two bodies were found in the cockpit. Authorities faced challenges retrieving the bodies from the wreckage, which was partly buried about 2m deep in an oil palm plantation. – May 4, 2024.
