THE opposition expected to raise a slew of issues, including flash floods, landslides, and traffic congestion, when Penang assembly meets in the afternoon.

Izhar Shah Arif Shah is expected to raise the many grouses of his constituents about flooding. Izhar has regularly posted on social media about floods and severe winds that damage village homes.

Backbenchers are expected to raise issues about worsening road congestion and mega infrastructure projects planned for the state.

The Air Itam-Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu elevated bypass is under scrutiny owing to complaints from residents over the construction work and the project's failure to comply with guidelines. A stretch of the project near Island Glades has been slapped with a stop-work order pending an investigation by the Penang Island City Council.

Perikatan Nasional (PN), led by Penang PAS commissioner Muhammad Fauzi Yusoff (Sungai Dua-PN), will also question proposed mega projects such as the light rail transit system and the land reclamation for Silicon Island near Batu Maung.

The health of Nor Zamri Latiff (Sungai Bakap-PN), who has been in the intensive care unit of Seberang Jaya Hospital since March for stomach inflammation, will also receive attention.

Pakatan Harapan has held the majority in the assembly for three consecutive term since 2008. The state government led by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow (Padang Kota-PH) is expected to rebut or answer various questions about climate change and the state's mega infrastructure projects. – May 24, 2024.
