ALL evidence gathered during investigations into the murder case involving special needs child Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin will be revealed during the trial.
Bukit Aman's Federal Criminal Investigation Department director, Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the decision to charge Zayn's parents under the Child Act 2001 was the best possible outcome.
"This was agreed upon by the Prosecution and Legal Division (D5) of the CID and the Deputy Public Prosecutor's office.
"We are so close yet so far," he said, indicating the police were close to solving the case but encountered obstacles at the final stage.
Earlier today, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari and Ismanira Abdul Manaf, both aged 29, were charged at the Petaling Jaya sessions court with neglect of their six-year-old son.
The couple was brought into the courtroom under heavy police escort before judge Syahliza Warnoh.
The couple was arrested on May 31. The police also arrested Zayn’s grandparents yesterday to assist investigations into the boy’s murder.
Mohd Shuhaily also commended the dedication of his officers and staff, who have been tirelessly working on the case for the past six months.
"They have been working day and night, sincerely carrying out their duties and responsibilities. They deserve the deepest appreciation," he told a special press conference in Bukit Aman.
He also urged the public to refrain from making speculative statements or spreading inaccurate information regarding the investigation.
Last December 6, the body of six-year-old Zayn was found lying in a stream close to his home at Idaman Apartment, Damansara Damai in Petaling Jaya. He was reported missing the day before.
The child is believed to have been murdered after a post-mortem found self-defence wounds on his body. – June 13, 2024.
