PARTIES involved in the dispute over matrimonial property worth RM2.1 billion involving the late Tan Sri Dr Jamaludin Jarjis (JJ) reached an amicable settlement today.

Shariah lawyer Nur Hidayah A Bakar, who represented Jamaludin’s mother, Aminah Abdullah, told reporters after closed proceedings at the Kuala Lumpur Shariah Court that the claim was resolved by mutual agreement.

Nur Hidayah said the parties met today for about three hours and reached a consensus, which was then recorded by the court.

“The terms of the settlement are complete, including all the matrimonial assets and inheritances of the deceased,” she said.

She said it was the first time the family and those involved had sat in the presence of lawyers and came to a settlement.

She said the trial started yesterday but the parties later agreed to meet today.

“Alhamdulillah... today it is over. However, the terms, amount or anything related to the property cannot be disclosed,” she said.

Kalsom, 68, was represented by Shariah lawyer Datuk Zainul Rijal Abu Bakar.

Kalsom filed a claim for marital property including 20 properties in Malaysia, Mecca, and several companies in October 2018, against her children, Ikwan Hafiz, Nur Anis, Nurul Alyaa, Noor Adilla and 90-year-old mother-in-law Aminah as defendants.

Under Shariah law, the mother gets one-sixth of the estate’s assets, the wife gets one-eighth, and the remainder is shared among the children.

Jamaluddin, an ex-Rompin MP and former Malaysian ambassador to the United States, was among six people killed in a helicopter crash on April 4, 2015.

He served as the minister of science, technology and innovation from 2004 to 2008, and was also the Malaysian ambassador to the US from 2009 to 2012. – July 3, 2024.
