UMNO today said it will not cooperate with PAS as long as Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang is president of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) component party, reported Sinar Harian.

Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said this was based on the party’s previous experience of working with PAS.

He claimed that PAS had betrayed them on numerous joint decisions.

“PAS has been lying from before till now. I am a living witness to the four-point discussion with Hadi.

“When we were face-to-face, we agreed, but the next day, he changed his mind and said he disagreed,” he said when opening the Kuala Kangsar Umno Delegates Conference 2024 at the Perak Jubilee Hall.

“As long as he (Hadi) is president, there is no hope of working with that party (PAS),” added Zahid.

Zahid said all parties in Pakatan Harapan were sincere in working together in both political work and government.

This was seen in the cooperation during several by-elections, he said.

“PH (Pakatan Harapan) wanted the menteri besar of Perak to be from BN (Barisan Nasional) despite us only holding nine seats in the state assembly.

“The same was also the situation in Pahang, where PH was willing to accept a menteri besar from BN,” added the deputy prime minister. – July 8, 2024
