A TOTAL of 50 police reports were lodged within a year after stalking was criminalised, said Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri. 

The amendments to the Penal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code that made stalking an offence came into effect on May 31, 2023. 

“The first prosecution for this offence was made in August 2023,” Nancy said in a parliamentary written reply. 

She said based on gender, 43 were of men, four were of women and three of unidentifiable gender. 

“As for the breakdown based on age, 30 were aged 18 and above and the ages of the other 20 were unknown. There are no cases reported involving perpetrators under the age of 18,” she said. 

She added that the age and gender of the person could not be identified if the stalking was done online. – July 11, 2024.
