POLLING has begun in the Nenggiri by-election at 20 polling centres. The centres are scheduled to close progressively between 2pm and 6pm. The centres, with 48 polling channels, opened at 8am.
Four of these centres – SK Tohoi, Pusat Pendidikan Komuniti Pos Gob, SK Sri Permai, and SK Kuala Sungai – will close at 2pm, and two others – SK Pulat and Dewan Orang Ramai Pos Simpor – will close at 3pm.
A total of 20,216 people are eligible to vote in the state by-election. Forty-three postal ballots were issued to eligible voters, including 14 police officers, for early voting on August 13, but they opted to vote by post.
The official vote-tallying centre is at Dewan Perdana of the Perdana Complex. The official results are expected to be announced by returning officer Nik Raisnan Daud at 9pm at the earliest.
The by-election is a straight fight between Barisan Nasional's Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani and Perikatan Nasional candidate Mohd Rizwadi Ismail.
The Nenggiri by-election was called after Kelantan Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah declared the seat, held by Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, vacant.
Both candidates will vote at Tabika Sri Bakawali in Bertam Lama. – August 17, 2024.
