PERIKATAN Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin has denied insulting the previous Agong in a speech he made when campaigning in the Nenggiri by-election.

Muhyiddin had allegedly said in his speech that he was supposed to be the 10th prime minister but “for some reason” was not called up by then-Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah to be sworn in as prime minister after the last general election.

In a statement today, Muhyiddin insisted that his speech was factual.

“I believe that my statement did not violate any of Malaysia’s laws,” Muhyiddin said.

“I will cooperate fully with the police and clarify my speech.”

Muhyiddin’s words led to 29 police reports being lodged against him alleging that he had questioned the previous king’s authority.

Earlier today, the Pahang crown prince also urged police to act decisively against Muhyiddin.

Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah said Muhyiddin had disparaged Al-Sultan Abdullah.

A probe into the matter will be carried out by the classified crimes investigation unit of Bukit Aman’s criminal investigation department for allegedly touching on 3R issues – race, religion, and royalty.

The Pagoh MP is expected to have his statement recorded by the police tomorrow. – August 19, 2024.
