A 17-YEAR-OLD teenager was charged with the murder of a 10-year-old disabled girl at the Sungai Siput magistrates’ court today.

The accused nodded when the charge was read to him before magistrate Nurul Asyifa Redzuan.

He is accused of murdering Nuraina Humaira Rosli at a swamp in Kampung Bersah, Pos Kuala Mu, Sungai Siput between 2.30pm and 5pm on August 16.

No plea was recorded as the case falls under the high court’s purview.

The accused faces the death sentence or imprisonment for up to 40 years upon conviction, and if not sentenced to death, at least 12 strokes of the cane.

Juvenile offenders, if sentenced to death, would be detained under Section 97(2) of the Child Act 2001.

Deputy public prosecutor RS Vitthiyeswary prosecuted, while the accused was not represented.

The court set October 28 for case re-mention for the submission of reports.

On October 17, Nuraina, a Primary Four student of SK Pos Kuala Mu, was found more than a day after she was reported missing. – August 27, 2024
