FORMER Klang MP Charles Santiago is not impressed with the explanation given by US Ambassador Edgard D Kagan on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which is now worsening in the Gaza Strip.

Santiago said the US has no moral standing to broker peace anywhere.

“Its foreign policy is run by the Jewish lobby that has held US presidents ransom in exchange for political support. The US has always done Israel’s bidding.

“It’s not shocking to see Kagan talking about ‘Israel’s security’ despite the fact their tanks and artillery continue to kill children, women and civilians.

“Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory has always been violent. The International Court of Justice has clearly observed that this is a threat to international peace and security. We see many nations condemning the ongoing onslaught in Gaza and the West Bank, which is an extermination of Palestinians.

“Kagan should know that conversations cannot start with October 7 but by looking at decades of massacre by Israeli forces.

“What does Kagan have to say about Israel targeting schools and hospitals? Would Kagan deny it too as well as Israel’s gross violation of humanitarian law?

“No US president had the spine to stand up against grotesque atrocities committed against Palestinians. The US has vetoed resolutions critical of Israel more than any other council member – 45 times as of December 18, 2023. And Kagan is just another propaganda artist for his government,” Santiago said in a statement.

Kagan, in a series of interviews with the local media, portrayed the conflict as one between equal sides, claiming that Israel has no choice but to defend itself.

He added that the US is trying to defuse the situation, adding that the utmost concern of the world’s superpower was to protect the lives of the civilians caught up in the conflict. – September 1, 2024.
