EDUCATORS in schools and community leaders in longhouses and kampongs should organise talks to emphasise the importance of loyalty to the country in the lead-up to Malaysia Day on Monday.

Ahmad Johnie Zawawi, the member of parliament for the Igan constituency in central Sarawak, said loyalty to the nation is a core principle of the Rukun Negara, which was strongly emphasised to the older generation during their school years.

"The Rukun Negara was frequently taught in schools in the past," he said.

"Great emphasis was placed on loyalty to God, the country, the King, the law, and the Constitution, as well as respect for everyone.

"I hope our educators and community leaders are also promoting these values.

"Teach our very young the importance of these fundamental values, which played a key role in uniting our nation in its early days," he said in a recent interview.

Johnie recently welcomed the Jalur Gemilang Malaysia Day convoy delegation, which comprised staff from the Sarawak Public Information Unit and the National Information Department, to his constituency.

The convoy is travelling across Sarawak, distributing the Malaysian flag to schools, community organisations, government departments, offices, and businesses.

The delegation is also visiting rural districts in the run-up to the Malaysia Day celebration on September 16. – September 14, 2024.
