PARTS of Kuala Lumpur have been affected by flash floods after heavy rain this morning, which is expected to worsen traffic congestion throughout the city.

Pictures and videos of cars stuck in flood waters were widely shared on social media and WhatsApp.

Areas reported to have been hit by floods include key roads within the city centre and major highways such as the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) and Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong (LDP).

According to Bernama, netizens also reported flash floods on several roads, including Jalan Parlimen heading towards Bukit Aman, Jalan Perak, and Lebuhraya Sultan Iskandar.

The areas surrounding Wisma Bernama and Bank Negara Malaysia are also said to be affected.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department this morning issued a thunderstorm warning for eight states including Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur.

In a post on its Facebook page, it said Penang, Selangor and Melaka, with Bentong and Rompin in Pahang, were forecast to experience thunderstorms until 1 pm today.

The SMART tunnel has also been closed to road users due to a flood operation being carried out.

The Dewan Rakyat sitting was also adjourned to 10.30 am, instead of the usual 10 am, because several MPs were stuck in floods. - October 14, 2024
