THE proposed multi-billion ringgit railway project to link Sarawak-Sabah-Kalimantan on Borneo Island has been categorised as a Mega Asean Connectivity project, said Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan.

"The proposed railway link is going to be one of the biggest railway projects in Asean.

"The ground survey for this project has already started in Sarawak and the project was raised for discussions during the recent East Asean Growth Area (EAGA) ministerial meeting in Kota Kinabalu.

"This proposed project is now officially listed under the Mega Asean Connectivity project list," he said in his updates in the Sarawak Public Communications Unit social media site.

Tengah is also the state minister in charge of international trade and industry.

On Oct 12, it was reported that the Federal Government has appointed an expert railway-construction consultant to start ground surveys for the ambitious Sarawak-Sabah-Kalimantan mega Trans-Borneo Railway project to link east Malaysia with the new Indonesian capital of Nusantara in Kalimantan.

Putrajaya has already given the greenlight for the hiring of the consultant appointed by the Federal Transport Ministry, said deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah. - October 20, 2024
