DISTRICT offices and the welfare department in Sarawak have been directed to immediately stock up food supplies and flood relief items in all flood-prone areas throughout Sarawak.

Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department Datuk John Sikie said all forward bases must be ready.

"Every place that is known to be a flood danger zone where road links and river transport can be cut off when it rains must have a forward base where food supplies and flood relief items like temporary shelters are stocked.

"The latest information is that 31 forward bases are already ready for operations.

"Those populated areas still without forward bases must be considered too if they are in danger of floods," he said after checking the flood preparations in Bintulu.

Six states in Malaysia are expected to face the full force of the coming monsoon that is forecasted to start later this month and last until March next year.
