THE Sarawak United Peoples Party (SUPP), a component of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) ruling state government, has endorsed the call by DAP to exempt the state from the impending RON 95 petrol price hike.

SUPP information chief Adam Yii today said his party agrees with Sarawak DAP over this important matter that will affect some three million people in Sarawak.

He said that SUPP feels that any price hike of RON 95 will trigger multiple price hikes of other essentials throughout Sarawak.

"Yes, we certainly agree that Sarawak should be spared from any fuel price hike as ordinary Sarawakians are not prepared to deal with any increase in daily expenses that will definitely be triggered by a RON 95 price increase.

"Sarawak is also a key producer of oil and gas for Malaysia. We contribute billions to the national revenue every year.

"The Federal Government should therefore exempt Sarawak from the impending RON 95 subsidy adjustments expected next year," he said.

Yii is also Miri City Mayor and state assemblyman for Pujut.

On Nov 6, Sarawak DAP chairman and Stampin Member of Parliament Chong Chien Jen had made a call in Parliament for Sarawak to be exempted from any RON 95 price increase.

Chong, who is also Sarawak Pakatan Harapan chairman, raised the issue during his debate in the Dewan Rakyat sitting in Kuala Lumpur. - November 8, 2024
