PENANG has become the main state for medical tourism prospects in the country, capturing 45% of the industry's revenue.

There is no denying that the state plays a crucial role in the medical tourism sector, said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Besides Indonesians, the state also continues to garner interest from China nationals.

“Penang’s reputation as a medical tourism destination stems from affordable, high-quality healthcare, supported by multilingual medical staff, advanced medical technology, and extended visa options,” he stated.

Chow stressed that the state’s achievements in this sector reflect the expertise and dedication of healthcare professionals in Penang and the trust placed by international patients in the state’s medical services.

Chow said this at the 101st Alumni Association Reunion of the King Edward VII College of Medicine & Faculty of Medicine, Universities of Malaya & Singapore Northern Branch at the G Hotel in Gurney Drive.

He also underscored the positive economic impact of medical tourism on the state, solidifying Penang’s position as a leader in this rapidly growing industry.

Penang’s rich cultural heritage, vibrant history, and world-renowned street food promise to enhance the memories of all attendees,” Chow said.

He commended the association for its success in uniting doctors, dentists, and pharmacists, emphasising that this collaboration fosters bonds between Malaysia and Singapore while promoting the sharing of knowledge and expertise.

“Your ongoing efforts to unite healthcare professionals are truly commendable. They strengthen bilateral ties and facilitate valuable exchanges in the medical field,” he said.

In attendance were Dr Tai Lee Siang, the president of the King Edward VII College of Medicine & Faculty of Medicine, Universities of Malaya & Singapore Northern Branch, and Prof Tay Boon Keng, the association’s immediate past president. - The Vibes, November 16, 2024.
