A UNIVERSITI Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) cadet pleaded not guilty in the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court to a charge of injuring his junior by stomping on the victim’s stomach with spike boots last month.

Mohd Adil Mat Awang Ghani was slapped with the charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing hurt to Haziq Iqbal Ahmad Rashidi.

"I understand and plead not guilty," he said firmly.

Mohd Adil, a third-year cadet, allegedly committed the offence at the parade ground of the UPNM military training academy at 10.45 pm on Oct 21.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Sabri Othman proposed a bail of RM10,000 with one surety, along with the condition that the accused not approach the complainant, the victim, and the prosecution witnesses, who include UPNM officers and trainers, as well as his fellow cadet trainees.

Lawyer Nurul Diyana Basher, who appeared for the accused, pleaded for minimum bail as her client was still undergoing military training.

Magistrate Noorelynna Hanim Abd Halim granted Adil bail of RM5,000 with one surety.

She also ordered him not to harass potential witnesses such as the victim, classmates, and UPNM officers who would testify later.

The court fixed Feb 10, 2025, for mention. - November 22, 2024
