THE National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) said it was an ‘injustice’ that Paynet makes millions of ringgit each time someone uses the ATM for withdrawals.
In a statement, its general secretary J. Solomon said Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet) said this is made on the backs of the poor working class and alleged that Bank Negara Malaysia was also party to this.
“PayNet was reported to have retained an accumulative profit from previous years amounting to RM1.43 billion and owns assets of RM2.1 billion.
“It is grossly unfair that the low-income B40 and M40 groups pay this toll,” He said.
NUBE had earlier highlighted that PayNet is the company that imposes an RM1.00 fee for out-of-network ATM withdrawals.
“NUBE strongly calls on PayNet and its shareholders to do the right thing as a service to poverty-stricken Malaysians and discontinue the RM1.00 out-of-network ATM fee with immediate effect,” added Solomon. - December 7, 2024
