THE Kuala Lumpur High Court's acquittal in her money laundering and tax evasion case came as a "meaningful gift" during Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor's birthday month.

Rosmah, the wife of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, turned 73 on Dec 10.

“From day one, my lawyers informed me that there was no basis for these charges.

“This is what I call justice, and it is the kind of justice that everyone should have. Justice should never be played with — not just for us, but for the public as well," she said.

She said the court’s decision was a special birthday present for her and she would relay the good news to her husband.

Earlier today, Justice K. Muniandy granted Rosmah a discharge and acquittal on all 17 charges in her money laundering and tax evasion case, citing flawed charges.

Rosmah, 72, was standing trial on 12 money laundering charges involving RM7.09 million and five charges of failing to declare her income to the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN).

Rosmah, who was accused of committing the offences between Dec 4, 2013 and June 8, 2017, was charged on Oct 4, 2018.

She still has an appeal pending before the Court of Appeal over her conviction in the RM1.25 billion corruption case on a solar energy project for rural schools in Sarawak. - December 19, 2024
