SARAWAK will begin planning the construction of a new international airport and deep sea port in southern Sarawak in 2025.
Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg said these new mega projects are crucial in propelling the economic transformation in Sarawak for many years to come.
In his New Year message, he said Sarawak will plan ahead for the period until 2030 and beyond, with the international airport to be designed based on the model of the Dubai International Airport.
"We are going to transform Sarawak on a full scale, with the new international airport and deep sea port as our top priorities.
"They will be crucial in propelling Sarawak into the next decade," he said.
Johari said the state government will have to start planning for the finance required for these massive new projects.
He said existing socio-economic development projects will continue to be given attention.
"We will also try to complete all outstanding infrastructure projects in Sarawak listed under the 12th Malaysia Plan as 2025 is the last year of the Plan.
"We had done well in getting most of the 12MP projects completed, especially the physical projects related to roads, bridges and public amenities.
"The outstanding ones must be completed in 2025," he added.
Johari also called on all Sarawakians to support the effort to fight for Sarawak rights in Malaysia. - January 1, 2025
