WITH just a few days to go before the Chinese usher in their new year, colourful bazaars are seen in almost every town and the two cities of Kuching and Miri in Sarawak.

Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Karim Hamzah said these CNY Bazaars are a big draw every year.

"These CNY Bazaars brighten the mood ahead of the Chinese New Year every year. They attract locals and foreigners too.

"They are important avenues for cultural celebrations, forging interactions among people of all races and also attracting tourists.

"In Miri, these CNY Bazaars attract tens of thousands of Bruneians from across the border," he said when attending the Miri CNY Bazaar at Chinatown.

There are more than a hundred stalls in the bazaar venue selling all sorts of food and drinks and CNY decorations.

Concerts, traditional dances, lion dances and other cultural performances liven up the atmosphere in the bazaars that will operate until CNY eve.

Aside from Miri, these CNY Bazaars are also held in Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and other districts. - January 23, 2025
