MTUC dismisses its president over alleged misconduct
Effendy is barred from contesting in the congress' elections for two terms, or six years - February 4, 2025

THE Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) has dismissed its president, Mohd Effendy Abdul Ghani, over allegations of misconduct, reported The New Straits Times.

The decision was made after MTUC's disciplinary committee presented its investigation findings and deliberated on the matter during a meeting on Jan 19.

Acting MTUC president Datuk Dauzkaply Nor Ghazali said Effendy is barred from contesting in the congress' elections for two terms, or six years.

"He is prohibited from using MTUC's name, representing the organisation, or attending any meetings or events in its capacity from Jan 19," he said in a statement yesterday.

Dauzkaply said MTUC is a coalition of unions that upholds workers' rights and operates in accordance with its constitution.

He said all decisions are made collectively during general council meetings, as stipulated in MTUC's constitution. - February 4, 2025
