THE government has appointed three new companies to provide mandatory vehicle inspections (PPKM) alongside Puspakom said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
The appointed companies are Wawasan Bintang Sdn Bhd, which will operate in Port Klang, Gua Musang, and Mersing; Pakatan Petroleum Sdn Bhd, which will cover Rawang and Temerloh; and Beriman Gold Sdn Bhd, which will serve Kuching and Serian in Sarawak.
He said the companies were appointed following a March 17, 2023, cabinet decision to open mandatory inspections under the Road Transport Act 1987 [Act 333] to other qualified firms.
"As previously announced, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and the Road Transport Department (RTD) developed and established the requirements, regulations, and procedures for selecting qualified companies.
"The application process was open from July 1, 2024, to Oct 31, 2024. During this period, the RTD received 12 applications from companies interested in becoming motor vehicle inspection service providers.
He said the selection process considered financial stability, site feasibility, and alignment with the government’s designated PPKM service areas.
"The selected companies have two years to set up inspection centres, procure equipment, and obtain necessary approvals.
"The Road Transport Department will closely monitor their progress, and operational licences will only be issued once all requirements are met.
He said the ministry will also reopen applications for the second phase from March 1 to June 30, 2025.
Unsuccessful applicants from the first phase, as well as other interested companies, are encouraged to apply, he added. - February 7, 2025
