DATUK Nasiruddin Mohd Ali, the CEO of GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISB), along with 21 other individuals, faced charges in the Shah Alam High Court today for allegedly being part of an organised crime group.
All 22 accused, comprising 13 men and 9 women, pleaded not guilty to the charges before Judge Datuk Seri Latifah Mohd Tahar after the case was transferred to the High Court.
The group was charged under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code, which criminalises membership in an organised crime group. The offense carries a potential prison sentence of five to 20 years upon conviction.
They are accused of being part of the criminal group operating at a premises in Bandar Country Homes, Rawang, between October 2020 and September 11, 2024.
Bernama reported that the other 12 men who claimed trial are Hasnan Abd Hamid, 54; Mohd Shukri Mohd Noor, 54; Mokhtar Tajuddin, 61; Shuhaimi Mohamed, 57; Muhammad Afdaluddin Latif, 35; Mohamad Sayuti Omar, 36; Mohd Fazil Md Jasin, 58; Mohammad Adib At-Tamimi Asa'ari, 33; Mohd Dhirar Fakhrur Razi, 35; Muhammad Zahid Azhar@Nadzri, 52; Abu Ubaidah Ahnad Shukri, 35; and Muhammad Fajrul Islam Khalid, 29.
Mohammad Adib is a son of the late Ashaari Muhammad, founder of the Al-Arqam Islamic group.
The nine women are Hamimah Yakub, 72; Azura Md Yusof, 58; Asmat@Asmanira Muhammad Ramly, 45; Mahani Kasim, 55; Siti Salmiah Ismail, 58; Siti Hajar Ismail, 52; Khalilatul-Zalifah Mohammad Jamil, 28; Nurul Jannah Idris, 29; and Nur Jannah Omar, 33.
Of the accused, only Hamimah Yakub has been granted bail, set at RM40,000 with two sureties. She was released on January 13. The remaining 21 defendants are currently in remand at Kajang Prison.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Shafiq Hashim argued against granting bail for the accused, citing that the charges fall under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (SOSMA) 2012.
The defense, represented by lawyer Datuk Rosli Kamaruddin, is in the process of completing bail applications for the 21 individuals. As of now, 17 bail applications have been filed, and the remaining four will be submitted later this week.
The defense expects all applications to be finalised and submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor within a week.
The court has scheduled a hearing for the bail applications on March 17 for the 21 defendants, excluding Hamimah, whose bail has already been processed.
The case continues to develop, as legal proceedings move forward for those involved in the alleged organized crime operation. - February 12 2025
