THERE have been no discussions regarding a potential collaboration between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) for the upcoming Melaka state election.
PH Communications Director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil stated that he has not been involved in any such discussions, though he acknowledged that the political dynamics of each state could lead to various forms of political alignment as the elections approach.
He noted that each state possesses unique political characteristics, meaning that political developments in one state do not necessarily mirror those in another.
“Tonight, the Prime Minister and the Menteri Besar of Selangor, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari—acting as the Election Director for PH—will head to Masjid Tanah to officiate a program; perhaps they possess additional information beyond what Tan Sri Muhyiddin has already mentioned.
“I am not personally involved, but we observe that recent political dynamics allow for various alignments, as we know that every state possesses its own unique political landscape,” he said.
Yesterday, Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin confirmed that the party would not contest the 16th General Election (GE16) solo but would instead operate within a political coalition.
In a separate development, Fahmi stated that the decision regarding the conditional pardon for Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was based on Article 42 of the Federal Constitution, which falls under the prerogative of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
He noted that PH and the government had already provided explanations regarding the matter, including statements from Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, who represents the government on the Pardons Board.
“On the government’s side, PH issued a statement last week, and Hannah Yeoh—as the Minister representing the government on the Pardons Board—has also issued a statement.
“The Prime Minister also addressed the matter yesterday; the decision to grant the conditional pardon was made by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and implemented by the Pardons Board,” he said. – September 20, 2026
