SIX deposed Negeri Sembilan Undang and chieftains whose status is in dispute will face contempt of court proceedings at the Seremban High Court.

This follows a decision by the Court of Appeal today, which dismissed their application to stay the contempt-of-court proceedings initiated against them.

On July 8, Seremban High Court Judge Roz Mawar Rozain granted an application by the Dewan Keadilan dan Undang of Negeri Sembilan along with its secretary, Raja Norazli Raja Nordin, to commence committal proceedings against the six individuals.

The injunction was intended to preserve the status quo of the DKU, including its composition and Raja Norazli's position as secretary, pending the determination of legal issues before the court.

The six are former Undangs Datuk Maarof Mat Rashid and Datuk Abd Rahim Yasin, Datuk Mubarak Thahak, whose status as the Undang is under dispute, and Undang for Johol Datuk Muhammed Abdullah, as well as Tunku Besar Tampin Tunku Syed Razman Tunku Syed Idrus Al Qadri, and Datuk Shahbandar Sungai Ujong Datuk Seri Badarudin Abdul Khalid.

“It is an established legal principle that committal proceedings must be accorded priority over other interlocutory applications.

“Proceedings for contempt of court directly concern the court’s jurisdiction to prevent any undue interference with the administration of justice, as well as to uphold the authority of the court in the eyes of the public,” said Amarjeet while delivering the panel of judges’ decision.

On Sept 7, the appellate court reserved its decision after hearing submissions from both parties on whether the committal proceedings should be suspended pending the disposal of their appeal.

The bench ordered the six to pay a total of RM60,000 in costs to the DKU and Raja Norazli.

The dispute began when the six filed an originating summons on May 5 seeking a copy of the minutes of a special DKU meeting held on April 17, which included a decision to remove Mubarak as Undang Luak Sungai Ujong. – November 4, 2026
