ENFORCEMENT agencies seized drugs and smuggled goods worth a combined RM256.3 million in operations at Malaysia's entry points, as the government steps up efforts to tighten border security.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said 93 attempts to smuggle drugs valued at RM202.7 million were foiled between January and October this year.
Separately, 41 seizures of smuggled goods worth RM42.38 million were recorded between August and October under a joint enforcement plan involving the Home Ministry and Transport Ministry.
The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) also made 44 seizures involving goods valued at RM11.22 million during the same period.
Anwar said smuggling activities involving drugs, prohibited goods and firearms remained a concern, requiring enforcement operations to be strengthened.
“Any incursion into border areas or violation of regulations, particularly involving smuggling, is worrying,” he said during the Prime Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat.
He was responding to Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau), who asked about measures to tighten border security and address weaknesses in coordination among enforcement agencies. - November 3, 2026
